Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity at the Heart of LIAT Research

Research and Innovation (R&I) in the digital field is one of the company’s strategic areas of development. The use of digital technologies to improve human comfort in a healthy and sustainable environment is the main objective of LIAT’s research activities. These activities are aimed at providing support in making appropriate decisions to guide the players in the digital ecosystem.

LIAT is determined to remain at the forefront of scientific research and technological innovation. To this end, LIAT will continually invest in laboratories and research centres, encouraging students to participate in innovative projects in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. These opportunities provide students with practical experience that complements their academic training. Our teaching and research staff make an effective contribution to technological advances in the fields of artificial intelligence, data science and cybersecurity.

Research at LIAT aims to address current societal challenges in the Congo and Africa and to study the most difficult fundamental and applied scientific problems while exploring new technologies to maintain the competitiveness of future African economies and improve human well-being.

At LIAT, Research and Innovation (R&I) brings together and energizes both fundamental and applied research activities in artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and cybersecurity and continuously enriching the curriculums offered. These activities are centered around two dedicated research labs:

  • LIAT-CySec: covers all topics related to cybersecurity
  • LIAT-AI: dedicated to innovation in artificial intelligence and data science.

These two research Labs constitute a platform for reflection and innovation that offers a framework for developing multidisciplinary  projects around digital technology with a particular focus on AI and cybersecurity. Both Labs constitute a space of interaction between professionals and academics. Bachelor’s and Master’s students are grafted to these research labs in order to carry out their work and internships in collaboration with our partners.

Seminars and workshops are organized to allow LIAT faculty, researchers, students and invited speakers to present their work and trends in AI, cybersecurity, networking, and more.

LIAT maintains a network of universities and companies in Congo, Africa, and internationally (Europe, North America, Asia) with multiple partnerships and scientific collaborations in various countries. Our faculty, researchers, and engineers collaborate with international universities around the world. LIAT invests in research with:

  • Research teams composed of researchers at the forefront of their fields, who participate in the development of innovation and share their knowledge with students.
  • A Master’s research track that allows students to enrich their experience and expertise by providing access to a range of scientific activities, training, and professional networking development.
  • Organization of research-related events, including workshops, conferences, seminars, and scientific visits. These events aim to raise awareness about the issues of digital technology, cybersecurity, AI Ethics and Trust, discuss current topics, and highlight research activities.

In response to the growing demand for expertise in cybersecurity, data science, and artificial intelligence, LIAT has implemented a strategy to ensure the promotion of research and innovation with the following objectives:

  • Address the needs of businesses and public organizations by mobilizing the expertise of LIAT and its partners.
  • Provide high responsiveness and a single point of contact for public and private decision-makers.
  • Enable operational deployment of the many research works in applied sciences and engineering carried out at LIAT.
  • Carry out research projects that systematically integrate students, thus preparing the next generation for businesses.

The expertise of our researchers is widely recognized and contributes to our international reputation: every year, members of LIAT are awarded international prizes and distinctions. This expertise is widely recognized in Africa and internationally, but also outside the scientific community. Indeed, administrations and authorities regularly seek the advice of our scientists to help them make decisions on key issues in the society where digital technology plays a key role.
