Learning English, particularly at academic and university level, will open up new career and study opportunities. To allow our students to benefit from the potential offered by English, several courses at LIAT are offered in English. For example, we have introduced the Intensive English Program (IEP). The IEP is an excellent transitional program for non-English speakers who wish to pursue university studies in English and who would like to improve their job prospects or to better assimilate into an international working world in which English plays a key role.
The duration of the IEP program varies depending on the student’s entry level and individual needs. IEP program is made up of eight levels of proficiency. Students are placed at the best level based on their skills. They take only those levels necessary to achieve the desired fluency, allowing them to complete the course in the technical fields and participate meaningfully in spoken English conversations.
The IEP program is designed for students enrolled in Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at LIAT who have an English knowledge below the intermediate level during the placement test. This program enables students to develop the language skills they need to pursue their academic career in English. The course lasts for a semester of 15 weeks, with about 20 to 30 hours of classroom learning per week. With a small class size of between 10 and 20 students, we ensure excellent working conditions and personal attention to our students.
Students learn to listen to and understand English, as well as developing their written and oral skills. Step by step, English learners apply the skills they have learned in previous courses to address the challenges in the new and follow up courses. Outside the classroom, students are encouraged to seek every opportunity to apply what they have learned in real-life situations. To assess their level of mastery of the knowledge acquired at the end of the course, students take written and oral tests. The program culminates in a certificate of successful completion. Once they have reached the highest level, students can take the Oxford Test of English, TOEFL and TOEIC to prove their English language skills and proficiency.
Tuition fees for the IEP program are included in the cost of the Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees for students enrolled in these programs.
